We had a GREAT weekend at LSSR! Not only did we have a lot of fun but we fit in some service projects along the way! The two projects we completed in cooperation with Boy Scout Troop 3 were: the cleanup of the beach area at the fishing hole and the cutting and stacking of tree limbs in the North Valley. Everyone really pitched in and "Doc", the ranger for the ranch, was very appreciative. So much so that he personally delivered coffee to us wiped out big kids Sunday morning at 7am! Thanks Doc!
Ranger Doc really put it simply when he explained to us how much our few hours of work helped. There were about 40 of us total working at the camp and we worked for about three hours. When that is all added up, we saved Doc120 hours worth of work. That is three, forty hour work weeks! It really goes to show how much can be accomplished when we work together, not to mention how great it feels to help keep up one of our favorite Scout hangouts.
Volunteering at Little Sioux Scout Ranch is great way to get outdoors but also earn some "credit" towards future outings. As an adult, you can volunteer as a staff member at any Council sanctioned camp and "earn" a spot for your child at another camp. If you are interested, please talk to Ricky or contact LSSR for further information. Below are some pictures from the weekend. Thank you to everyone that came out this and especially to Ricky and Jennifer for making sure us newbies survived in the "wilderness".
